In a statement issued on Saturday by her Press Secretary, Rabi Yusuf, the First Lady pledged to continue championing initiatives aimed at protecting the rights of girls, increasing access to education, and creating economic opportunities for women.

According to the statement, Hajiya Huriyya has emerged as one of the leading voices advocating for the welfare and advancement of the girl-child in Zamfara State, using public awareness campaigns and grassroots engagement to tackle barriers preventing girls from accessing quality education.

The statement noted that the First Lady has consistently spoken out against gender-based violence and has worked closely with families, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to encourage parents to prioritise the education of their daughters.

Her advocacy efforts, it said, complement the educational reforms of the state government by helping to create an environment where more girls can remain in school and realise their full potential.

“Through direct engagement with communities and awareness campaigns, the First Lady has continued to inspire families to support the education of their daughters, ensuring that young girls are empowered with the knowledge and skills needed to become future leaders,” the statement said.

Beyond education, the First Lady has also intensified efforts to improve the economic well-being of women across the state through various empowerment programmes.

According to the statement, more than 5,018 women benefited from specialised business starter packs and financial support in 2025, enabling them to establish or expand small-scale enterprises.

The initiative, it noted, has helped reduce poverty, improve household incomes, and strengthen women’s participation in local economic activities.

The statement further disclosed that the Women Economic Empowerment Programme provided direct financial grants to 500 women selected from different communities across Zamfara State.

The programme was designed to support women facing economic challenges and provide them with resources to grow their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

In the agricultural sector, the First Lady also spearheaded the Women and Youth in Agriculture Support Programme, which has empowered more than 300 beneficiaries with modern farming equipment, training, and startup capital.

The initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity, create employment opportunities, and improve food security across communities in the state.

The statement added that campaigns promoting home gardening have also recorded positive outcomes, encouraging families to cultivate food crops and contribute to community-based food production.

It highlighted that Hajiya Huriyya’s approach to development has focused on collaboration and inclusion, with strong partnerships established between government institutions, traditional leaders, women’s groups, and community organisations.

According to the statement, these efforts have helped foster social cohesion, strengthen community participation, and promote unity across Zamfara State.

The First Lady reiterated her determination to continue supporting programmes that empower women, protect children, and expand educational opportunities for girls, stressing that sustainable development can only be achieved when women and young people are given the tools to succeed.

She also called on stakeholders, development partners, and community leaders to join hands in advancing initiatives that improve the lives of women and children throughout the state.
