A total of 126,291 candidates registered for the examination in 12 subjects. The examination was conducted from April 20 to April 30, 2026.
NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, announced the release in a statement on Thursday. He also disclosed that the BECE Award Committee had approved dates for the 2026 resit examination.
The Chairperson of the Award Committee and Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Folake David, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the successful conduct of the examination and the release of the results.
She said the results were approved following the conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee meeting held at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
According to her, the BECE re-sit examination will be held on July 22 and 23, 2026, and will cover Mathematics and English Studies.
She explained that the resit is meant for candidates with deficiencies in mathematics, English studies, or both.
“The re-sit examination gives affected candidates the opportunity to remedy deficiencies in mathematics and English studies and obtain the required certification for admission into senior secondary school (SS1) without repeating a full academic year,” she said.
The BECE is conducted annually by NECO for pupils completing Nigeria’s nine-year Basic Education programme.
