When women rise, Nigeria rises — First Lady

The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has said that empowering women should not be seen as charity but as a smart investment in the nation’s future.

She made the remarks on Sunday in a message marking International Women’s Day 2026, observed worldwide on March 8. According to Mrs Tinubu, this year’s theme, “Give to Gain”, highlights the urgent need to make sure women and girls have equal chances to succeed and contribute to national growth.

“This year’s theme reminds us that empowering women is not an act of charity; it is an investment in our collective future,” she said. She added that giving women access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, leadership roles, justice, and equality strengthens families, communities, and the country.

“When we provide women with these opportunities, we gain stronger families, more prosperous communities, and a more inclusive nation,” she said.

The First Lady emphasised that the advancement of women is essential for Nigeria’s stability and progress. “When women rise, Nigeria rises,” she said, underlining the connection between women’s empowerment and national growth.

Mrs Tinubu also joined millions of Nigerians and people around the world in celebrating the resilience, achievements, and contributions of women and girls across the country and globally.

She concluded that supporting women is not just about fairness; it is about building a stronger, brighter future for everyone. The message reminds everyone, young and old, that every step toward equality counts and makes a real difference in shaping the nation.
