Lagos State came second with 58.4 points, followed by Oyo State with 55.2 points, as the ranking assessed education indicators across 12 states and the FCT.
Osun State placed fourth with 54.8 points, while Ekiti and Ogun ranked fifth and sixth with 53.1 and 52.7 points, respectively. Anambra State occupied seventh position with 51.9 points.
Rivers State came eighth with 51.2 points, followed by Delta State with 50.8 points and Akwa Ibom with 50.1 points. Enugu State ranked 11th with 49.5 points, while Cross River State came last among the locations assessed, scoring 48.9 points.
The ranking was based on five indicators: adult literacy rate, net enrolment rate, pupil-teacher ratio, school density and examination performance. These measures were used to assess different aspects of educational access, school resources and learning outcomes.
The results showed a strong presence of South-West states among the highest-ranked locations, with Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ogun joining Lagos in the top six. The FCT led the ranking, while Anambra was the only South-East state included in the top seven.
The figures were shared by StatiSense on its X account on October 10, 2026, and subsequently reported by Legit.ng.
Although the FCT topped the ranking, its score of 62.1 points remained below 65 out of 100, highlighting the challenges involved in achieving stronger education outcomes nationwide.
The ranking has drawn reactions from Nigerians on social media, with some discussing the role of government policies, school infrastructure, and historical investment in education. Others called for the findings to be used to identify gaps and improve learning conditions across the country.
The report provides a comparative snapshot of education quality in the locations assessed. However, the results do not represent a ranking of every state in Nigeria, as only 12 states and the FCT were included in the published list.
