LAUTECH Keeps Rescued Pupil Under Observation

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, has confirmed that a pupil rescued after the recent abduction of teachers and pupils in Oyo State remains under medical observation after being diagnosed with a congenital heart disease. The hospital disclosed that all other rescued victims who were admitted have been discharged after receiving medical care.

A hospital source revealed that the rescued abductees were discharged gradually based on medical evaluations and their fitness for release. According to the source, 44 victims were initially admitted for treatment following their handover to the Oyo State Government by military authorities earlier in the week.

“As of Thursday morning, eight pupils and one teacher were still on admission. However, they have all been discharged except the pupil with congenital heart disease,” the source said. The official also noted that two pupils who had earlier been discharged but later returned to the hospital for further medical attention had since been treated and released.

The rescued pupils and teachers were among those abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esienle communities in Oriire sports-to-keep-children-off-social-vices/">Local Government Area of Oyo State. They regained their freedom following a coordinated rescue operation by security agencies.

Despite the successful rescue and the gradual discharge of the victims from the hospital, academic activities have yet to resume at the affected schools. Schools in Yawota and Ahoro-Esienle remained closed at the time of reporting, while other schools within the same locality, including those in Ahoro Dada and Ikoyi-Ile, have resumed normal academic activities

Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the health of the remaining pupil while working with relevant stakeholders to ensure the safe reopening of the affected schools. The incident has renewed concerns over the security of schools and the need for stronger measures to protect learners and teachers across vulnerable communities.
