The achievement marks a significant milestone for the institution, which was established in 2021 to strengtheneducation-council-launch-career-centre-to-prepare-students-for-global-healthcare-jobs/"> healthcare education, research and the training of skilled professionals in Nigeria.

The pioneer graduates are drawn from four academic programmes: Biochemistry, Microbiology, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Pharmacology. Their graduation represents the university’s first major step towards producing graduates for Nigeria’s health and related scientific sectors.

The university’s first convocation ceremony is scheduled to hold on Friday, October 16, 2026, at its main campus in Ila-Orangun. The event is part of an eight-day programme running from October 9 to October 18, featuring academic activities, research exhibitions, community outreach and the presentation of university prizes.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Akeem Olawale Lasisi, is expected to preside over the ceremony, which will formally confer degrees on the 138 pioneer graduates.

FUHSI’s establishment was aimed at addressing gaps in Nigeria’s healthcare workforce by providing specialised education and promoting research in health sciences. The institution offers training designed to prepare students for careers in healthcare, biomedical sciences and related fields.

The graduation of the pioneer class comes as the university continues to expand its academic offerings. Its management has also announced additional programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session, following approval for new courses in healthcare administration and hospital management, social work, medical physics and chemistry.

The first convocation represents an important stage in the university’s development as it begins to contribute graduates to Nigeria’s health and scientific workforce.
