Lagos State University (LASU) is set to graduate more than 20,000 students at its 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies, with 494 graduands earning First Class honours.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing ahead of the ceremonies scheduled for August 17 to 19.
According to her, 262 students obtained First Class honours in the 2024/2025 academic session, while 232 others achieved the distinction in the 2025/2026 session.
For the 2024/2025 session, 7,621 students completed various first-degree programmes. Of the number, 3,155 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 3,439 with Second Class Lower Division, 622 with Third Class, while 37 obtained passes. Another 106 students from the MBBS and BDS programmes received unclassified degrees.
In the 2025/2026 academic session, 8,653 students completed their first-degree programmes. The breakdown showed that 3,545 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 4,157 with Second Class Lower Division, 678 with Third Class and 31 with passes.
The university is also graduating 3,383 postgraduate students across the two academic sessions. They include 618 Postgraduate Diploma holders, 1,508 academic Master’s graduates, 900 professional Master’s graduates, 238 PhD graduates and 119 professional doctoral graduates.
Olatunji-Bello also announced the overall best graduating students for the two sessions. Ayilara Lawal Olawale of the Department of Project Management emerged as the best graduating student for 2024/2025 with a CGPA of 4.96, while Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide of the Department of Aerospace Engineering emerged as the best graduating student for 2025/2026 with a CGPA of 4.97.
The Vice-Chancellor described the combined convocation as a significant milestone for the institution and disclosed that honorary doctorate degrees would also be conferred on prominent Nigerians, including Akin Kekere-Ekun, Bola Adesola and Aliko Dangote.
According to her, degrees in Engineering and Agricultural Sciences will be awarded at the university’s Epe Campus on August 17, while graduands from other faculties will receive their degrees at the Ojo Campus on August 18. Doctoral and honorary doctorate degrees will be awarded on August 19.
The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that LASU had secured approval for 17 new academic programmes from the National Universities Commission and received more than 84,000 first-choice applications in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
She added that the university had also secured approval for a N3 billion TETFund Centre of Excellence dedicated to Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Cyber Sciences, while construction had commenced on a 1,500-bed student hostel estimated to cost N4 billion.
The latest convocation is expected to mark another major milestone in LASU’s academic history as thousands of students prepare to receive their degrees and join the institution’s growing alumni community.
