Ayilara Olawale, a Project Management Technology student, finished the 2024/2025 session with a 4.96 CGPA, earning a First Class degree and the title of overall best graduating student for his session.

A year later, Adebanjo Oluolamide of the Department of Aerospace Engineering went even higher, graduating with a 4.97 CGPA to become the university’s top student for the 2025/2026 session.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, announced the two graduates on Wednesday while briefing journalists ahead of LASU’s combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies.

More than 20,000 students are expected to graduate from the two academic sessions, with 494 students earning First Class honours.

From discipline to First Class: Olawale’s winning journey

For Olawale, getting to the top was not just about examination scores.

After completing his B.Tech in Project Management Technology in November 2025, he described his university experience as a test of discipline, endurance and perseverance.

Following the announcement of his award, he took to X to celebrate the achievement and thanked God for helping him throughout his academic journey.

Olawale is also a beneficiary of the Project1500 initiative and participated in the Millennium Fellowship as part of the LASU Cohort.

Oluolamide proves there’s more to excellence than grades

Oluolamide’s time at LASU was marked by more than an impressive CGPA.

The Aerospace Engineering graduate combined his studies with research, academic writing and other activities outside the classroom.

He also twice received the Scholar of the Year award at the AESA-LASU Dinner.

Looking back on his undergraduate years, Oluolamide said the achievement was the result of long nights, intensive research and staying focused on his goals.

His research work also earned recognition beyond LASU. Two of his papers were accepted for presentation at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) NAICE 2026 Conference in Lagos.

Both graduates will officially receive their degrees during LASU’s combined 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies, which will run from August 14 to 23.
