Brittney Exline, an African-American software engineer, has gained renewed attention for her remarkable academic journey, having entered the University of Pennsylvania at 15 and graduated with a computer science degree at 19.

Exline, who was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, demonstrated exceptional academic ability from an early age. Reports about her childhood indicate that she taught herself to read at two and skipped three grades during her education.
She gained admission to the University of Pennsylvania in 2007 at the age of 15, becoming the youngest African-American female reported to have been admitted to an Ivy League institution at the time. She received a full scholarship and studied computer science.
Four years later, in 2011, Exline graduated cum laude at 19, earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science. Her achievement was subsequently reported as making her the youngest African-American engineer in the United States.
Beyond her academic achievements, Exline gained professional experience while still young. Reports state that she worked as an investment analyst on Wall Street at 16 and later became a software engineer with Chitika, an online advertising network.
During her university years, she was also involved in education and community initiatives, including mentoring programmes in Philadelphia and work connected to providing technology and laptops to children in underserved communities.
Her story has continued to attract attention as an example of an unusually accelerated academic journey and the possibilities that can emerge when gifted young students receive opportunities to develop their abilities.
