Covenant University finished as the first runner-up, receiving ₦1 million, while Ajayi Crowther University came third and won ₦500,000. The institute distributed a total of ₦3 million among the three winning teams, alongside commemorative plaques.

The competition, held on October 14 and 15 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, was organised as part of activities marking CRMI’s 25th anniversary. It featured the theme, “Building a Resilient Nigeria Through Strategic Risk Management.”

The contest brought together university students to identify critical challenges facing Nigeria and develop practical, sustainable solutions using risk management principles.

According to CRMI, finalists were assessed based on their understanding of risk management, depth of analysis, innovation, feasibility of proposed solutions, presentation skills, and supporting evidence. Participants also defended their ideas during live pitching sessions before industry professionals and other stakeholders.

In a statement signed by its President and Chairman of Council, Kevin Ugwuoke, the institute described the initiative as a strategic effort to introduce risk awareness and critical thinking into Nigeria’s educational system.

Ugwuoke said the country needed a generation of professionals capable of anticipating uncertainty, making informed decisions and turning challenges into opportunities for sustainable development.

He noted that Nigeria’s economic reforms, technological advancements and growing global uncertainties made risk management an essential skill for future professionals.

Beyond the cash prizes, CRMI announced that participants would receive certificates and free membership of the institute, giving them access to professional development opportunities.

The institute also disclosed that eligible teams could apply for the 2027 Spencer-RIMS Student Risk Management Challenge, an international competition in which the top eight teams will advance to RISKWORLD in New Orleans, United States.

The competition underscores CRMI’s commitment to promoting risk management education, developing young talent, and encouraging innovative solutions to challenges affecting Nigeria’s development.
