A 21-year-old Nigerian student, Kamdi Okeke, has achieved a remarkable academic milestone after graduating summa cum laude from Drexel University and securing scholarship awards worth $442,044 to pursue a medical degree in the United States.

Okeke graduated on June 11, 2026, with a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, earning an outstanding 3.95 Grade Point Average (GPA). His performance placed him among the top graduates in his programme and earned him first-class honours with the highest distinction.
Beyond his academic achievements, Okeke distinguished himself through biomedical research, community service initiatives, and projects focused on artificial intelligence and healthcare innovation. He also recorded an impressive score of 521 in the health-and-medicine/medical-college-admission-test-mcat" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), one of the key requirements for admission into medical schools in the United States.
His outstanding credentials earned him admission offers from five leading medical schools across the U.S., including the prestigious Perelman School of Medicine. He was also placed on the waitlist of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
In recognition of his academic excellence, leadership potential, and contributions to biomedical innovation, Okeke was awarded the Twenty-First Century Scholars’ Award by the Perelman School of Medicine. The merit-based scholarship covers full tuition and fees throughout his four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme and is valued at more than $320,000.
In addition, the University of Pennsylvania awarded him an extra scholarship package worth $110,511, bringing his total scholarship support to $442,044.
Okeke is expected to begin his medical studies in August 2026, where he will continue building on his background in biomedical engineering while pursuing a career in medicine.
His achievement highlights the growing impact of Nigerian students in global science, technology, engineering, and medical fields. It also reflects the increasing recognition of African talent in some of the world’s most competitive academic institutions.
