According to Vanguard, the application process requires prospective beneficiaries to verify their identity and academic information before submitting a request for support. The available assistance covers institutional charges, while eligible students can also apply for an upkeep loan.
To begin the process, applicants are required to visit the NELFUND portal and select the “Apply Now” option. They must provide their National Identification Number and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board registration number.
Applicants are then expected to select their public tertiary institution, provide their matriculation number and verify their date of birth. After supplying an email address and creating a password, they must complete the email verification process.
Once registration is completed, applicants can log in and update their personal information, including their current telephone number and residential address.
The next stage involves providing banking information. Applicants are required to enter their Bank Verification Number and details of an eligible commercial bank account. The information should be carefully checked and saved before proceeding with the loan request.
To submit an application, students should select the “Request for Student Loan” option. Applicants seeking assistance with institutional charges can request that component, while students interested in an upkeep loan are also required to apply for the institutional charges component.
Applicants must upload the required supporting documents, such as an admission letter where applicable. They should then review the information provided, accept the relevant terms and conditions and submit the application.
The process is part of the Federal Government’s efforts through NELFUND to make tertiary education more accessible by providing financial support to eligible Nigerian students.
Prospective applicants are advised to provide accurate information throughout the registration process and carefully follow the requirements stated on the official NELFUND portal.
