The beneficiaries were drawn from IPHY Kiddies School in Ebute-Metta and Rock of Ages School in Ikorodu, with 50 pupils from each school receiving support.
The intervention was implemented under the bank’s Back-to-School Corporate Social Responsibility programme.
Each pupil received a package containing a school bag, exercise books, writing materials, a mathematical set and a reusable water bottle.
The gesture came at a time when many Nigerian families are facing increased expenses associated with school resumption.
For parents, preparing children for a new academic year often involves purchasing uniforms, books, bags, writing materials and other necessities.
The cost of these items can become a significant burden, particularly for families with several school-age children.
Speaking during the initiative, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Alert Microfinance Bank, Raji Saheed, said the bank’s responsibility extended beyond providing financial services.
He explained that the communities where the bank’s customers live and operate were important partners in its growth.
The bank’s Chief Marketing Officer, Kayode Abraham, also emphasised the importance of education as an investment in the future.
The school authorities welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely support for pupils and their parents ahead of the new session.
For the children, the donated materials mean returning to school with some of the basic tools required for classroom learning.
A school bag, exercise books and writing materials may appear simple, but for families struggling with the cost of education, they can represent meaningful assistance.
The intervention also highlights the role private organisations can play in supporting education at the community level.
While government remains responsible for providing broad educational infrastructure and policy, corporate social responsibility initiatives can complement those efforts by addressing immediate needs within individual communities.
Alert Microfinance Bank said it intends to continue supporting initiatives focused on education, financial inclusion, enterprise development and sustainable community growth.
As schools reopen, the 100 pupils in the two Lagos schools now have one more reason to approach the new academic year with confidence.
For their parents, the intervention offers a measure of relief.
And for the schools, it demonstrates how partnerships with private organisations can translate into practical support for children preparing to learn.
