UNICAL bars 2 students of malpractice

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended two economics students for one academic session over alleged examination malpractice.

The students, Godswill Ifiok Udom and Chukwu Godswill A., were found with unauthorised materials during the ECO 307 – Project Evaluation examination held on February 20, 2026.

The suspension takes effect from the 2026/2027 academic session and was announced in letters dated October 5, 2026, signed by the university’s Registrar, Dr Chukwuka Icha.

According to the university, the decision followed an investigation by the Senate Examination Misconduct Committee. The university Senate approved the committee’s recommendations at its 258th meeting on October 2, 2026.

Apart from the suspension, the students’ results in the affected course have been cancelled. They are expected to return to their studies in the 2027/2028 academic session.

The university said the punishment was part of its policy against examination malpractice and other forms of academic dishonesty.

The decision serves as a reminder to students to follow examination rules and avoid bringing unauthorised materials into examination halls.
