Nine Year Old Nigerian Girl Turns TikTok Into Mathematics Classroom

At an age when many children are still discovering their favourite school subjects, nine-year-old Charlotte Muritala has already turned mathematics into both a passion and a teaching mission.

The young Nigerian from Ofa, Kwara State, has attracted attention for using social media to teach mathematics to other children, transforming a whiteboard, marker and smartphone into an unconventional digital classroom.

Charlotte, a JSS2 student, developed an interest in mathematics when she was about five years old.

Her enthusiasm for numbers has continued to grow, and she now creates lessons covering topics such as algebra, fractions, cross multiplication and lowest common multiples.

Rather than simply giving answers to mathematical questions, Charlotte breaks problems into smaller steps and explains the process of arriving at a solution.

She says this approach makes difficult questions easier to understand.

For Charlotte, mathematics is not simply another subject that has to be passed in school.

It is something she genuinely enjoys.

Even when she encounters difficult problems, the young mathematics enthusiast says she does not give up. Instead, she looks for an appropriate method and works through the problem step by step.

Her growing interest eventually moved beyond the classroom and into social media.

Charlotte’s mother created an online platform through which her daughter could share her knowledge with other children.

The initiative has allowed Charlotte to reach an audience far beyond her immediate school environment.

Her mathematics teacher has described her as an exceptional student with a strong passion for solving mathematical problems.

The teacher also called for greater support for children with outstanding academic abilities, stressing the importance of qualified teachers, scholarships and adequate funding.

Charlotte, meanwhile, has a message for children who struggle with mathematics.

She encourages them to practise regularly, learn from their mistakes and, most importantly, refuse to give up.

Her story offers a refreshing picture of what can happen when a child’s natural curiosity is encouraged.

At just nine, Charlotte is not only learning mathematics.

She is helping other children discover that mathematics can be understood, enjoyed and even taught in an exciting way.

From a small whiteboard in Kwara to a growing audience online, the young Nigerian has demonstrated that age does not necessarily determine the size of an educational dream.
