The announcement was made by the Federal Ministry of Education after the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, monitored the ongoing examination at selected CBT centres in Abuja.

The minister commended NECO for conducting a hitch-free examination, describing the smooth exercise as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to modernise its examination system. She noted that the successful deployment of CBT demonstrates the country’s readiness to embrace technology-driven assessments while improving transparency and reducing examination malpractice.

Prof. Ahmad also assured candidates and stakeholders that the Federal Government would ensure that the transition to full CBT examinations is gradual and inclusive, stressing that no student would be disadvantaged during the process.

Speaking during the monitoring exercise, NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, disclosed that the council had recorded no major technical challenges since the commencement of the examination.

He said the seamless conduct of the CBT examination has boosted confidence in the council’s digital transformation agenda and positioned NECO for a nationwide transition to computer-based examinations in the near future.

According to Wushishi, about 1.38 million candidates registered for the 2026 SSCE, with female candidates slightly outnumbering their male counterparts. He added that the adoption of CBT would not only improve the credibility of examinations but also accelerate the marking process, enabling the council to release results earlier than in previous years.

The registrar expressed optimism that candidates would receive their results by the first week of September or even earlier, allowing tertiary institutions to conclude admission processes without unnecessary delays.

The Federal Government has continued to promote the adoption of technology in public examinations as part of broader education reforms aimed at improving efficiency, strengthening assessment integrity, and aligning Nigeria’s examination system with global best practices.
