The victory has drawn attention to the growing culture of innovation and technological development among students in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
One of the team members, Maryam Jelani, shared details of the achievement, revealing that the team almost missed the opportunity to participate in the competition before eventually deciding to register.
According to her, the journey to victory began after the team received positive feedback during a previous Pitchathon competition, where they finished in fourth place. Encouraged by the response to their project, they refined and improved their innovation before entering the CODET Competition.
The competition attracted participants from several universities across the country, creating a highly competitive environment that showcased some of the brightest young innovators in Nigeria.
For the contest, the Bells University team presented an upgraded version of its smart feeding device, rebranded as “TremorX.” The innovation was designed to address practical challenges through technology-driven solutions.
Jelani explained that the success did not come without challenges, noting that the team spent weeks refining its concept, rehearsing presentations, making last-minute adjustments, and preparing for intense scrutiny from judges and fellow competitors.
She described the competition as one of the most demanding experiences of their academic journey, with each participating team presenting innovative ideas that continually raised the standard of the contest.
As the competition progressed, anticipation grew among participants, with many uncertain about the final outcome due to the quality of projects on display.
However, when the winners were announced, the Bells University team emerged as the overall winner in the Group Category, securing first place ahead of teams from other participating institutions.
The victory marks a significant milestone for the students and highlights the increasing role of Nigerian universities in developing solutions that address real-world challenges through innovation and technology.
Jelani credited the achievement to teamwork, resilience, and the support received from lecturers, mentors, and university administrators throughout the project.
She also acknowledged the contributions of her teammates, describing the victory as a collective accomplishment earned through dedication and hard work.
Following their regional triumph, the team has now qualified for the national stage of the competition, where winners from different regions across the country will compete in Abuja for the overall title.
Education stakeholders have continued to emphasize the importance of innovation competitions in nurturing problem-solving skills, entrepreneurship, and technological advancement among young Nigerians.
The success of the Bells University team serves as another example of how student-led innovations are gaining national recognition and creating opportunities for future growth within Nigeria’s expanding technology ecosystem.
