The Federal Government has intensified its campaign against examination malpractice, warning parents, teachers, school proprietors, principals, invigilators and students that those involved in compromising public examinations will face the consequences.

Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, issued the warning during a meeting with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools and other education stakeholders in Abuja.
Alausa said examination malpractice had become deeply rooted in Nigeria’s education system, creating an unfair advantage for candidates who gain access to examination materials while disadvantaging students who prepare honestly.
He argued that the problem could no longer be treated as the responsibility of students alone, stressing that adults within the education system often play important roles in enabling or preventing malpractice.
The minister said the Federal Government was determined to restore confidence in Nigerian public examinations by strengthening examination administration and closing loopholes that facilitate cheating.
According to him, students who spend months preparing for examinations should not be placed at a disadvantage by candidates who obtain questions or other examination materials through fraudulent means.
Alausa further warned that persistent malpractice could damage the reputation of Nigerian certificates and weaken confidence in the country’s education system.
He therefore called on schools, parents and examination officials to support efforts aimed at ensuring that academic results genuinely reflect candidates’ abilities.
The government’s position signals a tougher approach to examination malpractice as Nigeria seeks to improve the credibility of its education system and ensure that academic qualifications are earned through knowledge, preparation and merit.
