Shettima said the programme aligns with the Federal Government’s broader education and skills development agenda under the National Council on Skills and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The Vice President made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving a delegation from the Kukah Centre and ProFuturo Foundation, led by Bishop Matthew Kukah, during a courtesy visit to the State House, Abuja.

He was briefed on the progress of the digital education initiative, which has been implemented in Nigeria since 2017 and focuses on improving access to quality learning resources, teacher training, and student engagement in underserved areas.

Shettima expressed satisfaction with the achievements recorded so far, particularly in school enrolment and improvements in teaching and learning outcomes through the use of digital tools.

He noted, however, that despite the progress made, significant gaps still remain due to Nigeria’s large and growing population, stressing the need for sustained collaboration and expansion of the initiative.

The Vice President proposed stronger engagement between implementing partners and key government institutions, including the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Federal Ministry of Education, and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

According to him, such collaboration would encourage the exchange of ideas and help develop more effective solutions to challenges affecting school enrolment, access, and learning quality across the country.

Shettima also expressed readiness to present the ProFuturo initiative to the National Economic Council (NEC), with a view to supporting the digitisation of Universal Basic Education Boards nationwide.

Earlier in his remarks, the Founder of the Kukah Centre and leader of the delegation, Bishop Matthew Kukah, said the visit was aimed at reaffirming support for the Federal Government’s efforts in expanding digital education across Nigeria.

He described the Vice President’s commitment to the initiative as a demonstration of leadership necessary to prepare Nigeria for the demands of a digitally driven global economy.

Also speaking, the Deputy Director of ProFuturo Foundation, Mr. Albert Martinez, said the success of the programme in Nigeria has been driven by strong local partnerships, stakeholder commitment, and supportive political leadership.

He noted that the project has continued to expand steadily due to collaboration between international and local actors committed to improving education outcomes.

Providing an overview of the programme’s impact, Project Coordinator Dr. Emmanuel Nkanta revealed that the initiative has reached 13 states, 123 schools, 72,000 students, and 1,150 teachers since its inception.

He added that there is a need for increased partnerships and improved funding to scale the intervention further and extend its reach to more communities across the country.

The initiative continues to be viewed as a key model for leveraging technology to bridge educational gaps and promote inclusive learning in Nigeria.
