MTN Nigeria has called on students across the country to register for the 2026 edition of the MTN mPulse Spelling Bee, an annual competition designed to promote literacy, reward academic excellence, and nurture the next generation of young scholars.

The competition is open to primary and secondary school students aged between nine and 15 years, with participants set to compete for prizes worth over ₦40 million, including scholarships, cash rewards, ICT devices and the coveted opportunity to serve as MTN CEO for a Day.
According to MTN Nigeria, registration for the eighth edition of the competition is now open through the mPulse platform, where students can participate in online practice sessions and qualifying rounds before progressing to regional and national stages.
Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Nigeria, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to supporting education and empowering young Nigerians through technology and learning opportunities.
She explained that the competition provides talented students from every part of the country with an equal opportunity to showcase their spelling and language skills while building confidence, resilience and a passion for academic excellence.
“MTN mPulse Spelling Bee creates opportunities for every child to learn, compete and dream. By combining nationwide digital participation with regional competitions, talented students, regardless of where they live, can showcase their abilities and compete on a national stage,” she said.
This year’s competition introduces an expanded format, beginning with nationwide online qualifying rounds before moving to regional physical contests in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Abeokuta. The best-performing contestants from the regional stages will advance to the grand finale in Lagos, where the top 20 finalists will compete for the grand prizes.
Beyond rewarding outstanding students, the competition also recognises the efforts of teachers and schools. MTN said top-performing schools in each region will receive prizes of up to ₦1 million, while teachers who mentor outstanding contestants will also be honoured.
The company noted that the mPulse Spelling Bee has grown into one of Nigeria’s leading literacy competitions, helping thousands of young learners improve their vocabulary, communication and critical thinking skills while opening doors to educational opportunities.
MTN encouraged eligible students and schools nationwide to complete their registration early and begin preparations for the competition, reaffirming its commitment to using technology to expand access to quality education and inspire academic excellence among Nigerian children.
