We should endeavour to build good reading habits because they can shape our minds, futures, and communities. Reading is more than a subject taught in the classroom; it is the foundation upon which other subjects are built. A learner who reads well can think critically, express ideas clearly and understand the world better.

Deliberately building a reading culture among learners is therefore not a luxury but a necessity for their development.
Reading regularly helps learners improve their vocabulary, understanding, memory and thinking skills. Learners who read widely also tend to write better, reason logically, think critically and perform better in their studies.
Learners can develop a reading culture by having access to different books, learning from their parents, teachers and mentors, and setting aside time to read at school and at home.
Reading is a habit that should be encouraged and nurtured from an early age. It is an investment in the future because the benefits of reading can last a lifetime.
