The Kano State Government has suspended planned **Durbar processions and horse-riding activities** in Kano metropolis over fears that the events could lead to clashes.
The suspension followed an emergency meeting of the State Security Council held on Sunday at the Government House, Kano.

The council reviewed the security situation around the planned activities and decided that suspending them was necessary to prevent possible violence and protect lives and property.
In a statement signed by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the government said security reports showed that a large number of supporters were already mobilising for the activities.
It said the level of mobilisation raised concerns about possible confrontations and a breakdown of law and order.
As a result, the State Security Council directed that the planned processions and horse-riding activities be suspended immediately.
The government directed security agencies in the state to enforce the order and take appropriate action against anyone who violates it.
Residents, traditional institutions, political actors, supporters and other stakeholders were also urged to remain calm and avoid actions that could threaten peace in the state.
The government said the suspension would remain in place **until further notice**.
Durbar is a major part of Kano’s cultural heritage and is known for colourful processions involving horse riders dressed in traditional outfits. The event usually attracts large crowds and is held during important celebrations and occasions.
The suspension means that the planned horse-riding displays and processions will not go ahead for now.
The state government said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to prevent loss of life and damage to property while efforts continue to maintain peace and public order in Kano.
