Okundaye achieved the remarkable feat after successfully qualifying as a chartered accountant through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), setting a new national record for the youngest person to attain the prestigious professional qualification.

In a statement issued on Monday, Olawande described the teenager’s accomplishment as a powerful testament to hard work, discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

According to the minister, Okundaye’s success demonstrates the enormous potential of Nigerian youths and serves as an inspiration to young people across the country.

“I heartily congratulate Miss Osasere Okundaye on her outstanding achievement of becoming Nigeria’s youngest Chartered Accountant at just 16 years of age. This remarkable milestone is a testament to the power of hard work, discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence,” he said.

Olawande noted that the teenager’s achievement proves that age is not a barrier to success, adding that with determination, dedication, and the right support, young Nigerians can break records and achieve extraordinary milestones.

He further described Okundaye as a shining example of the limitless potential within Nigeria’s youth population.

“Her accomplishment reminds us that with determination, dedication, and the right support, young Nigerians can break barriers, set new records and inspire a generation to dream bigger and strive for excellence,” the minister added.

Olawande also commended the teenager’s parents, family, teachers and mentors for the roles they played in nurturing her talent and supporting her academic journey.

According to him, their encouragement, sacrifices and belief in her abilities contributed significantly to her exceptional achievement.

The minister reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Youth Development’s commitment to creating opportunities for young Nigerians through policies and programmes designed to help them realise their full potential.

He expressed confidence that stories like Okundaye’s reinforce optimism about the country’s future.

“Osasere’s achievement reinforces our confidence that the future of Nigeria is bright in the hands of focused, determined and talented young citizens,” he said.

He also wished the teenager greater success in her future academic and professional pursuits, expressing hope that her achievement would motivate millions of young Nigerians to pursue excellence.

Okundaye’s record surpasses that of Jonathan Adewale, who became Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant in 2022 at the age of 17 after completing the rigorous ICAN professional examinations.

The ICAN qualification is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most demanding professional certifications, typically requiring years of intensive study and multiple examinations before candidates are admitted into the prestigious accounting profession.

With her historic accomplishment at just 16, Osasere Okundaye has not only rewritten Nigeria’s record books but also emerged as a symbol of academic excellence, determination and the immense potential of the nation’s young people.
