At the end of the competition, Torkuma Perfect of St Anthony Secondary School emerged as the winner and received ₦500,000. Ibeh Daniel, also of St Anthony Secondary School, placed second with ₦250,000, while Abdulrahman Thani Fatimah of Queen Elizabeth School came third and received N100,000.
The competition featured at least 19 students from public basic schools across the 16 local government areas of the state. It was organised by the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) alongside the official launch of the Environmental Sustainability Club, marked with a tree-planting exercise.
Speaking at the event, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said the quiz competition was designed to promote intellectual engagement, innovation, and healthy rivalry among students across the state.
He described the initiative as “more than an academic exercise”, adding that it serves as a platform for intellectual engagement and competition among students from all 16 local government areas of the state.
The governor, represented by the SUBEB Chairman, Prof. Sheu Adaramaja, said the programme reflects key pillars of the administration’s focus on education and environmental sustainability.
He urged school children to embrace agriculture as a pathway to food security, wealth creation, and economic growth, noting that the sector should be seen as modern and technology-driven rather than only for subsistence farming.
According to him, agriculture has the potential to create wealth and ensure food security while driving national development.
He also encouraged residents to cultivate the habit of tree planting, protect green spaces, and avoid indiscriminate waste disposal in schools and communities, saying environmental protection is a shared responsibility.
According to most stakeholders, the initiative reinforces the link between education, agriculture, and environmental sustainability for future development.
