Nigeria is situated in West Africa on the Gulf of Guinea and has many natural landmarks and wildlife reserves.
• It has an estimated population of 216.1 million.
• It has 36 states and 774 local government areas.
• Though its official language is English, Nigeria is made up of several ethnic groups, the majority of which are the Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba. Within these ethnic groups are several languages numbering about 371.
• Nigeria became an independent nation on the 1st of October, 1960.
• Nigeria became a republic in 1963.
• Nigeria has 6 geopolitical zones.
• The capital is Abuja and its currencies are Naira and Kobo.
• Nigeria operates a democratic system of government.
• The arms of government are the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary.
• The legislative arm is made of 2 chambers; a bicameral legislature.
