The Federal Ministry of Education has released the final list of ranked and approved textbooks to be used in Nigerian schools for the 2026–2028 academic period.

The ministry announced the release on Monday following the completion of the first phase of its national textbook ranking exercise, covering Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS 1) and Senior Secondary School 1 (SS 1).
According to the ministry, every approved textbook has been assigned a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code, alongside details such as the title, author or authors, publisher and year of publication. The system is intended to make it easier to identify and monitor approved instructional materials and strengthen accountability in their selection, procurement, and use.
The exercise was conducted under the guidance of the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, with the final list approved by Alausa.
The ministry explained that the introduction of the QR tracking system contributed to the time required to complete and validate the approved lists. It said the ranking exercise would be implemented in phases, with the second phase expected to cover textbooks for Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2 and SS 2.
The same identification and tracking system will be applied to textbooks covered under the subsequent phase, according to the ministry.
Publishers, schools, education authorities, procurement agencies and other stakeholders have been advised to consult the official approved list before selecting or purchasing textbooks for the affected classes.
The Federal Ministry of Education said the exercise is part of efforts to ensure that teachers and learners have access to quality, relevant and curriculum-aligned instructional materials, while improving transparency and accountability in textbook provision across Nigerian schools.
The ministry also urged stakeholders to comply with the approved list when providing and using textbooks for the specified classes. The complete 2026–2028 ranked and approved textbook list, including the Ranking/QR Tracking Code assigned to each title, has been made available through the ministry’s designated platform.
