Prospective candidates preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination have received an alternative route to complete registration after complaints emerged over payment difficulties on the Remita platform.

The West African Examinations Council advised candidates who encountered problems with online payments to visit the nearest WAEC office, including its Yaba office in Lagos, to obtain registration PINs.
The intervention followed complaints that some users were being debited without receiving the validation receipts needed to complete their registration.
The payment concerns surfaced shortly before the registration deadline, raising anxiety among candidates who feared that unresolved transactions could prevent them from completing the process on time.
WAEC responded by providing an offline option for affected candidates.
Under the normal online process, candidates purchase registration tokens through the WAEC portal, with the token delivered to the registered email address after payment is confirmed.
However, candidates experiencing payment difficulties can seek assistance directly from WAEC offices.
The development highlights one of the challenges associated with increasingly digital registration systems.
While online payments can make examination registration faster and more convenient, technical failures can leave candidates in difficult situations, particularly when deadlines are approaching.
The official WAEC registration portal indicated August 30, 2026, as the registration deadline, giving affected candidates additional time to resolve outstanding issues.
Candidates who had already made payments but had not received confirmation were therefore encouraged to address the issue rather than make unnecessary duplicate payments.
