The scholarship was presented through the senator’s foundation during a ceremony in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, where beneficiaries were encouraged to remain focused on their education and avoid activities that could jeopardise their future.
Speaking at the event, Nwaebonyi said the initiative was designed to prevent financially challenged students from dropping out of school due to economic hardship. He explained that the programme also complements the Ebonyi State Government’s investment in education and human capital development.
The lawmaker noted that the scholarship scheme, which initially targeted 500 students, was expanded to accommodate 930 beneficiaries following an increase in the number of applications from indigent students requiring financial support.
Nwaebonyi urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity by taking their studies seriously and staying away from cultism and other social vices.
“I expect them to be serious with their studies because many of us did not enjoy this kind of opportunity. They should remain committed to their education and become responsible leaders in the future,” he said.
He also encouraged the students to use social media responsibly and contribute positively to national development, stressing that education remains one of the most effective tools for personal growth and societal progress.
Representing the wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Felicia Nwamkpuma, commended the senator for investing in the education of young people. She described the scholarship scheme as a significant contribution to human capital development and a valuable complement to the state government’s efforts to improve access to quality education.
She urged the beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them by remaining dedicated to their studies, striving for excellence and becoming responsible citizens who will contribute meaningfully to the development of Ebonyi State and Nigeria.
