The announcement was made by the Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board, Chukwuemeka Mbah, in a statement released to journalists in Enugu on Tuesday.
According to the board, the scholarship beneficiaries were selected from all 17 local government areas of the state and represent various academic disciplines. The awardees include more than 500 undergraduate students, 100 postgraduate students, and 160 public sector teachers.
Chukwuemeka Mbah disclosed that applicants who successfully passed the Computer-Based Test (CBT) have begun receiving SMS and email notifications inviting them for verification and documentation. The verification exercise is being conducted on a local government-by-local government basis to ensure a seamless process.
He noted that the scholarship initiative reflects Governor Peter Mbah’s vision of building a knowledge-driven economy by investing heavily in education and equipping young people and public sector workers with the skills required to contribute meaningfully to the state’s long-term development.
“The scholarship programme demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that talented students and teachers are not denied educational opportunities due to financial challenges,” he said.
The Executive Secretary encouraged all successful applicants to respond promptly to the verification invitations to avoid delays in processing their scholarship awards.
He further revealed that the current batch is only the first phase of the programme, assuring residents that additional beneficiaries will be accommodated in subsequent phases.
“More beneficiaries will be captured in the next phase of the scholarship programme. It is open to the people of Enugu State, and I urge eligible residents to continue applying. This is not the time to abandon quality education because of financial limitations. The governor has created opportunities for our people to access quality education,” he stated.
The scholarship programme remains one of the flagship education initiatives of the Mbah administration, complementing ongoing investments in modern school infrastructure, digital learning, teacher capacity development, and policies designed to improve access to quality education across Enugu State.
The initiative underscores the state government’s broader strategy of positioning education as a catalyst for economic growth, workforce development, and sustainable social progress.
