Curbing indiscipline among students: A dire necessity

Curbing indiscipline among students: A dire necessity

Indiscipline among young students has become a major source of concern in society. Students now engage in many unethical activities such as vandalism, violence, examination malpractice, stealing, disobedience, disorderliness, and other forms of misconduct.

If this situation is not addressed, it will have serious negative effects on society. Many of these students may become school dropouts, engage in criminal activities, perform poorly academically, or even become drug addicts.

However, this problem can be curbed if the right attitude and proper training are given to children from an early stage of life. The role of parents and schools cannot be overlooked. Parents must first be disciplined to raise disciplined children. As the saying goes, one cannot give what one does not have. Good home training goes a long way in helping teachers instil discipline in children.

Parents must also encourage their children to obey rules and accept correction when necessary, instead of attacking teachers or school authorities when discipline is enforced. Doing so gives children the wrong impression that they are above the law or untouchable.

Teachers and school authorities, on their part, must not weaken discipline in an attempt to please parents. Discipline is essential for the holistic development of every student.

When parents and schools work together to instil discipline in children, indiscipline among students can be greatly reduced or even eliminated.
