Registration for the 2026 UTME and Direct Entry exam will soon begin.
To help candidates avoid mistakes, JAMB has shared important tips everyone should know before registering.
Here is a simple explainer to guide you:
- Get Your NIN Ready
Every UTME candidate must have a National Identification Number (NIN).
If you don’t have one yet, visit a NIMC centre quickly, because no NIN, no registration.
- Use Your Own Phone Number
You will need a personal phone number to register.
This number is used to create your JAMB profile and receive messages from JAMB.
Make sure it is active and always with you.
- Create an Email Address
JAMB also needs your email address.
It helps you recover your profile if there is a problem.
If you don’t have one, create it early. Gmail is easy to use.
- Choose Your Course Carefully
Before registration starts, decide the course you want to study, like Medicine, Law or Engineering.
You will also be asked to choose a second course, just in case.
- Pick Your Schools Early
Think about the schools you want to apply to.
You can choose a university, polytechnic or college of education.
It is good to have a backup school too.
- Check the Right Subjects
Each course needs certain subjects in UTME.
If you choose the wrong subjects, you may not get admission.
Check the JAMB brochure to be sure.
- Ask Questions If You’re Confused
If you are not sure about your course, school or subjects, ask for help.
You can talk to teachers, guidance counsellors or trusted education platforms.
JAMB says preparing early will make registration easy and stress-free for all candidates.
