Fifteen students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, have received a combined ₦3 million scholarship from the Alpha Circle Club of Lagos State as part of the organisation’s 2026 outreach programme.

Each of the beneficiaries received ₦200,000 to support their education. The beneficiaries include indigent students and others who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance.
The scholarship was presented to the students as part of the club’s effort to support young Nigerians facing financial challenges and encourage academic excellence.
Chairman of the 2026 Charity Visit of Alpha Circle Club, Hon. Ben Anyanwu, said the initiative was driven by the organisation’s desire to invest in the future by supporting students whose academic potential could be affected by financial difficulties.
Anyanwu said the club has undertaken charitable activities across Nigeria for more than 35 years. He added that this year’s outreach was expanded to include students in tertiary institutions.
According to him, the university selected the beneficiaries based on criteria agreed upon with the Alpha Circle Club. He explained that allowing the university to handle the selection process was intended to ensure that students who genuinely qualified received the support.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Hilda Osisioma, commended the organisation for supporting students in need and recognising those who have distinguished themselves academically.
She encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity, urging students with strong academic records to sustain their performance while encouraging other beneficiaries to work towards academic excellence.
The President of Alpha Circle Club, Hon. Leo Okafor, said the organisation’s decision to support students was based on its belief that investment in education is an investment in the future.
Okafor disclosed that the current intervention was only the beginning, as the club plans to establish a more structured scholarship programme in subsequent years that could support beneficiaries from their first year through graduation.
One of the beneficiaries, Ezuma Childera Danie, a student of Medicine and Surgery, expressed appreciation to the organisation, describing the scholarship as an encouragement to students facing financial difficulties.
The university’s Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Kingsley Ubaoji, also thanked the Alpha Circle Club for the intervention, saying the support would contribute to the welfare and educational development of the beneficiaries.
The scholarship forms part of the club’s broader 2026 charity outreach programme, while UNIZIK said the intervention would help support students’ educational pursuits.
