Ramadan is one of the most sacred months in Islam. It is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, when Muslims fast from dawn to sunset. Fasting helps Muslims grow closer to Allah, practise self-discipline, and reflect spiritually.
Ramadan is also the month in which the Qur’an was revealed. Muslims spend more time reading and understanding it, making extra prayers, and avoiding sinful behavior. Fasting teaches patience and helps people appreciate the blessings they have. It also encourages compassion for the poor, motivating acts of charity.
Ramadan strengthens faith and promotes family and community togetherness. Families gather for suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and iftar (breaking the fast), while communities come together for prayers in the mosque. Special nightly prayers called Taraweeh bring Muslims together in worship.
Ramadan is a time to purify the heart, seek forgiveness, and build habits that continue after the month ends. It is a time of mercy, blessing, and spiritual growth. Every Muslim looks forward to Ramadan as a chance to strengthen their relationship with Allah and improve their character.
