The day I was crowned chef

By Aminu Saheed Abba

The kitchen was my battleground, and I was determined to conquer it. One fateful day, I wasn’t feeling well, but my stomach was growling. I stumbled into the kitchen, remembering my brothers’ love for food. My parents surprised us with chicken and burgers, but I was full after one bite. Not my brothers, though! They were hungry, and we snuck downstairs to whip up some midnight snacks. Chaos ensued when one of my brothers accidentally hit a pot, and we were caught red-handed!

I made a quick escape, grabbing bread and cheese before locking myself in my room. But the culinary bug had bitten me. The next day, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I cooked up a storm – fried plantain, eggs, boiled yam, and a delicious stew. My family was shocked, and my brother’s eyes widened in surprise when he tasted my masterpiece.

The next morning, I woke up early, determined to cook again. My mom was amazed to see me up and about, and she offered to let me take the reins. With YouTube as my guide, I created another culinary masterpiece. When my dad and brother woke up, I served them with a smile, and their appreciation was music to my ears.

From struggling to cook to becoming the family’s go-to chef, my journey has just begun. And I’m loving every minute of it!
