As most students were enjoying the fresh breathe of the holiday after a stressful first term academic activities, some were engaged in a marathon of answering questions in a nationwide holiday challenge for secondary students courtesy of Afrelib. This was to give schools and students the experience of one of the first-hand century technology and its possible adoption as additional learning resources. The challenge whose second batch started from 5th to 17th January featured subjects like mathematics, sciences and English language that affords the participant a higher chance of winning through answering as many questions as possible.
Great heights academy presented 15 students from the secondary and 5 from the primary section respectively but with 15 of them making it through the final stage. Mrs Joycy Gomina, the programme coordinator announced Hannatu Waziri of JSS 3 as the national challenge winner after attempting 2229 questions and scoring a total of 1729 points. Amongst other contestants in the school, Amina Dikko of SSS 2 came second and the overall champion in science and English, while Abdulrahman Yusra of JSS 3 was the second runner-up with Halima Lukman of SSS 2 awarded the mathematics champion.
Receiving her trophy and other accolades which include 200,000 cash prize, the champion, in excitement appreciated God, her school and family members for the support and guidance, expressing surprise over the feat but a joy to behold. She acknowledged that this will be a stepping stone to greatness while encouraging other students to imbibe hard work because it surely pays.
Other competitors were given certificates of participation while some got medals. The programme coordinators, Mr Lanre Aderonmu and Mr Dauda Olanrewaju were honoured alongside the school for participating in the challenge.
