Effective tips for memorising the Holy Qur’an

From Kabir Yusuf Kabir

My name is Kabir Yusuf Kabir. I was born on 21st October 2008. I memorised the Holy Qur’an over a period of four years, Alhamdulillah. Memorizing the Qur’an has been one of the most rewarding and spiritual experiences of my life. It requires dedication, patience, and a strong connection with Allah.

Over time, I discovered several helpful strategies that made my journey smoother. I believe that by following these tips, others might find them even more effective and be able to memorize the Qur’an in less time than I did.

Below are seven important tips that I would like to share to help you memories the Qur’an faster and more effectively:

Intention (Niyyah)

Put it in your mind that you are ready for the struggles, sleepless nights, and patience needed. Having the right intention means you are prepared to face the challenges that come with memorizing the Qur’an. Without a strong and sincere intention, it’s easy to give up when things get hard. So make sure your heart is fully dedicated to this goal, because Allah rewards those who are sincere.

Stick to your intention and be consistent

Once you’ve made your intention, the next thing is to be consistent. That means you should make a plan and try to remember a little bit every day, even if it’s just a few words. Don’t let tiredness, distractions, or any struggle stop you from doing your best. When you keep working every day, it gets easier, and your memory becomes stronger. So no matter what happens, always stick to your intention and keep going. Little by little, you will make great progress.

Seek strong guidance and support

Having good guidance and support really helps. It’s not just about having a teacher, but someone who encourages you, corrects your mistakes kindly, and understands how to help you learn. For instance, my mom motivated me a lot, and my teachers were patient and knowledgeable. Being in a good school where memorization is taken seriously and students help each other made the journey easier and more fun. Surround yourself with people who want to see you succeed.

Time

Time is a very important factor. You need to create enough time every day for memories. Some of the best times are before Fajr or shortly after, and between Maghrib and Isha. These are quiet times when your brain can focus better. I used to remember before Fajr when my mind was fresh and it helped a lot.

Competition

Having a friend or group to memories with can really help. Friendly competition pushes you to work harder. I had a friend in my class who was also memorizing, and we used to check on each other’s progress. It made both of us better and more serious.

Revision (Muraja’ah)

You must keep revising everything you have memorized. If you don’t revise, you will forget. Just like a cloth that gets loose if you don’t keep tightening it. Make a schedule to revise old portions regularly so that everything remains fresh in your mind.

Dua and Tawakkul (Prayer and Trust in Allah)

Never forget to make dua. Ask Allah to make the memorization easy for you. Trust in Him and always turn to Him when it becomes hard. Sometimes I felt stuck, but once I made dua and asked Allah for help, things became easier. Always believe that it is only with Allah’s help that you can achieve this.

Conclusion

I believe that with these little tips mentioned above from my own experience, others might find them helpful. If you apply them with sincerity and consistency, you might even finish memorizing the Qur’an in less time than I did, In Shaa Allah.
