The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old primary school teacher, Garba Suleiman, over the alleged defilement of a 10-year-old girl in Damare, Yola South Local Government Area.
The suspect was arrested after the girl’s family reported the alleged incident at the Yola South Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, preliminary investigations showed that the suspect allegedly lured the girl before sexually abusing her.
The police said the case was immediately taken up for investigation following the complaint.
The victim has also been taken to a hospital for medical examination as part of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa, Kabir Umar Hassan, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yola for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Hassan condemned all forms of gender-based violence and said the police would investigate the allegation in line with the law.
He also urged parents and guardians to pay close attention to the safety of children and to report suspicious behaviour to the police.
The police encouraged members of the public to report suspected cases of abuse or other activities that could put children at risk.
The investigation is ongoing. The suspect is expected to face prosecution if the allegations against him are established according to the law.
