Premier International School held its annual science fair to promote recycling and exploring renewable energy.
The fair which was held on Wednesday at the school premises had students from all 3 divisions of Nursery, Primary and Secondary actively involved.
Some of the items, which were showcased at the fair were produced with recycled goods and they include pencil holder, solar-powered house, traffic light, floating houses, water dispenser, and picture frames, among many others.
Speaking at the event, the Head Teacher of the school, Mr. Charles Husseini, said the event was to make their learners global citizens and by doing that, they have to help contribute to solving global problems.
‘The earth is suffering as a result of human activities. There is environmental degradation, and global warming and very soon the earth may no longer be safe for human habitation. The students came up with this theme to save the world, explore recycling and renewable energy,’ he said.
Officials from NASENI, the agency responsible nurturing an appropriate and dynamic Science and Engineering infrastructure base for achieving home initiated and home sustained industrialization for Nigeria, were also present at the event.
In his remark, the Chief Scientific Officer of NASENI, Mr. Oladipo Kayode commended the initiative, saying, it is part of the mandate of the organisation to ‘catch them young’.
‘We have produced a primary science kit; a mobile kit that can be used to teach these children the practicals of science. What they are doing is what NASENI encourages in the Nigerian education sector,’ he said.
