JAMB Urges Students To Report Unfair Admission Denials

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has advised candidates and parents to report cases where qualified students are not offered admission despite meeting requirements.

The Registrar of JAMB, Ishaq Oloyede, gave the advice during an interview on Good Morning Nigeria, a programme on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

Oloyede said candidates who are confident of their Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scores should speak up if they are denied admission unfairly.

He warned against the use of illegal means to secure admission, noting that some parents still believe it is the only option.

According to him, the current admission process is transparent and designed to ensure fairness for all candidates.

“People are so daring, and the parents, because they have climbed the ladder to illegality, they believe there is no other way,” he said.

The registrar explained that JAMB’s Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) has improved transparency in the admission process, making it easier to track and manage placements.

“If you are sure of your score and believe you deserve admission, you should report to us because CAPS has made everything easy,” he added.

Oloyede noted that since the introduction of CAPS in 2017, there have been no major issues with the system.

He also disclosed that JAMB has strengthened its verification process for Direct Entry admissions to prevent the use of fake results.

According to him, the board now conducts strict checks on qualifications such as JUPEB and IJMB, making it difficult for candidates to manipulate the process.

He added that several offenders have been caught, while more efforts are being made to prevent examination malpractice.

Oloyede further stated that all degrees submitted for admission are now verified directly with the awarding institutions, including foreign universities, to ensure authenticity.

He reiterated that the system is capable of handling admissions fairly and urged candidates to follow due process.
