Behind hot tears, and brewing anger
Behind brave faces, there are lies
Behind her smile, there’s sorrow
Behind glossy lips, there’s dryness
Acceptance, her biggest foe
Reduced to alcoholism
Hoping to drink the pain away
But the aftermath of hangovers slapping her with reality
Alone, scared, and afraid
She wallows in pain and dines with sadness
A sad heart with only one wish
True happiness and acceptance
All she craves is love
That’s not too much to ask, is it?
People taunt and tease her
An outcast amongst her peers
Self-harm seems like the easy way out
Cuts only deep enough to drown out the pain
Every morning comes with regrets
A sea of doubts and feelings of self-betrayal
Wanting to give up
Tired of the abuse, she’s had enough
Thoughts of ending it so strongly on her mind
Giving up seems like the only road available
Then there’s light from the crack of darkness
Buried deep within
It widens and she feels hope
Whispers of a sweet tomorrow and a better place
With a sea of tears
She looks in the mirror and assures the girl looking back at her
Word of hope flying happily from the depths of her soul
Another life saved
This can’t be goodbye
I am more than enough
I matter the most
And hang in there, I MUST.
