The Daydreamer

By Umar-Farouk Musa

Aminu phoned all his five friends to tell them about his plans for his much-anticipated birthday, which would be held the following day, the first day of the fourth month of each year. All his five friends looked forward to the next day with all eagerness. Some even practically licked their lips from the birthday party plans unveiled by Aminu. But, Aminu would only chuckle with the funny statement “I will shock you.”

The day broke and it was time to party. The sun took its rightful position very early; lending credence to the general feeling that Aminu’s birthday ceremony was going to be greeted with the blessing of a pleasant climate. The sun shone with an appropriate degree, making Aminu’s friends to suggest an open-air party. To them, they were going to have a party that would remain the talk of the town.

Aminu reassured all his guests of a moment they had least expected. One of Aminu’s friends jumped on his feet in an attempt to hype the celebrant. He said I trust you, my guy. I know you have done a lot to stamp today’s party on the memories of many people long afterward.

Aminu retorted again “I will shock you.”

The guests only looked around one another and gave a considerable smirk.

It was time for Aminu to declare the party open with a speech.

Aminu started: I’m glad to consider myself a prospective film director. We have all done very well acting out a blank script called APRIL FOOL.

APRIL FOOL is only a script that I have written to practice my skills in film directing. It is only coincidental that my birthday is 1st of April. Maybe one day, my birthday celebration will differ from being nothing but a daydream.

Aminu left the scene, leaving many guests perplexed, disoriented and disappointed but a few others, proud of Aminu’s dexterity.
