A lazy boy with a big dream

By Adejoorin Michelle

Once upon a time, in a little village, there lived a young boy, who was nine years, named Taiwo. Taiwo’s father had died when he was five years old, so his mother was a widow and had to raise him alone. Taiwo was lucky to get access to a public school because his mother was very poor and no one was willing to support them financially.

Even though Taiwo ‘s mother worked really hard, Taiwo was a very lazy boy. At home, he was lazy and also lazy at school that his teachers had even complained to his mother a couple of times. Though Taiwo was a lazy boy, like every kid, he had a big dream, which was to become a successful and famous business man.

On a nice Monday afternoon, Taiwo’s class teacher told her students to come to the front of the class, one after another and say what they want to become in the future. It was Taiwo’s turn and he came to the front of the class and said “ I want to become a successful business man.”

Everyone except the teacher looked at him like he had just dropped down from heaven. He didn’t understand why they did that.

When Taiwo got home, he told his mother how each of them had been told to say what they wanted to become in the future. He also told his mother that when it was his turn and he said he wanted to become a successful business man, all his classmates looked at him as if he had just dropped down from heaven.

He said he didn’t understand why they did that. His mother explained to him that the classmates reacted  that way because they knew him to be a very lazy boy. She also said “A lazy person never achieves big dreams. You have to work hard to be a successful person, you don’t just pray to God for your dreams to come true without doing anything, you have to work for it because God only helps those who help themselves.”

From that day, Taiwo changed his ways. He always studied hard, paid good attention in class, and came home to help his mother with some chores before doing his homework.

As time went on, Taiwo began to get the best results in the class and was very hardworking.

He still wanted to achieve his goal, so he prayed to God for help. Later, he got admission into the University of Ibadan. His mother and teachers were so proud of him. He later became a multi -billionaire business man and started taking care of his mother at home with the money he had. He also became an example and inspiration to lazy children.

Moral lessons: God only helps those who help themselves.
