20 students expelled over exam misconduct

The Senate of the Federal University, Dutse, in Jigawa State, has approved the expulsion of 20 students and the temporary suspension of 15 others for taking part in exam misconduct.

The university made this announcement in a statement signed by the Director of Academic Affairs, Nora Dannatta, and released by the Director of Public Affairs, Abdullahi Yahaya-Bello, on Wednesday. The action follows the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct for the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic session.

The statement also said that two students were cleared of wrongdoing, while three others received written warnings. “The decision was in line with the rules for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and the students involved came from different faculties and departments,” the statement explained.

Teen Trust had previously reported a similar incident, including the University of Abuja expelling 28 students for offences such as cult activities, cheating, drug possession, and threats to life.

According to the Dutse University statement, the expelled students were found guilty of serious misconduct, including assault, burglary, theft, falsifying ‘O’ Level results, and using hard drugs. The university emphasised that these actions are part of maintaining discipline and honesty on campus.

The Senate hopes these strict measures will remind students of the importance of good conduct, honesty, and respect for the rules, encouraging a safer and fairer learning environment for everyone. (NAN)
