The joy of patience and gratitude

By Abdurauf Mustapha Wakil

There was once a kind-hearted married man who had always longed for the blessing of a child. Though his marriage was filled with love and understanding, the absence of a baby left a deep void in his heart.

Whenever he went out and saw children playing in the streets or laughing with their families, his heart would ache. He admired their innocence and joy, but it also reminded him of what he lacked. Despite his feelings of sadness, he never lost hope. He believed that everything happens at the right time and continued to pray to Allah with patience and faith, often reflecting on the verse:

 “Indeed, with hardship comes ease.”

(Quran 94:6)

Years passed, and the man remained steadfast in his faith, frequently seeking Allah’s mercy and blessings. He also remembered the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) words:

“The supplication of a servant is answered so long as he does not pray for something sinful or for the breaking of family ties, and so long as he does not become impatient and say: ‘I prayed but I have not seen it answered.’”

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2735)

One day, after many years of waiting, his prayers were answered. Allah blessed him and his wife with a beautiful baby. The man’s heart overflowed with gratitude and joy. He realised that Allah’s timing is perfect and that the years of waiting had taught him the value of patience, trust, and appreciation.

Morals: Patience is a Virtue: Trust in Allah’s timing; everything happens when it is meant to.
