My name is Hauwa Abdulmannan and my favourite hobby is story-writing.
It all started in my primary school, Iqra’a crèche located in Turin Maliki, Hausawa. I was in primary one by then.
I was scared, and I kept interrogating myself; Did I do something wrong? When I got to her office, I saw a group of students there. She gathered us and told us that she had been impressed with our English language skills. She added, we could become writers. She then gave us each a letter to give our parents. She told us to think about it and give feedback. She also told us to think about the form in which our writing would be.
The next day, during break, I went to Ms Amina’s office and told her that my parents were completely supportive and that I would like to take part in story writing. She was so happy and gave me a book with a title so I could write my first book. I wrote it and gave it to her the next day. I saw complete glee on her face as she read through the book. She was so happy that she gave me a hundred naira note.
One day, when I came back from school, I saw my mom smiling at me. When I asked her why she was smiling, she told me that she found the address to Ms Amina’s house. Surprisingly, she was our neighbour. I was so happy. I continued to write stories till I reached Jss1. I even published some of them. Thanks to my tutor, Ms Amina! I found something I could do in my leisure time.
